We also have a grand daughter!

Her name is Arionna and we see her mostly in pictures as we are 2000 miles away.

It's not the best situation but we're just happy to be grandparents!

Heartbroken but will continue

I'm so sad to report that the inability for our Sam to overcome whatever disorder he had has led to him passing away.

We are heartbroken and are even more committed to stopping poor breeding practices that lead to this type of situation.

Backyard breeders need to understand what they are doing to the living breathing animals and their humans.

No one should go through what we, as a family or Sam, as a beautiful living creature have gone through.

Still committed as ever to fostering but we've decided to take a break and spend some time with Mia and family.

Sam had a wonderful life these past few months doing what every dog loves to do!

It's also a little tougher thinking about letting go.

Sam is an adorable schnauzer with a seizure disorder.

We've been working daily with him on a couple issues but he still has a way to go.

Sam is doing so much better! After 3 weeks of constant training, love and new medication, we are seeing a positive change.

We were able to get him groomed which was something we didn't think was going to happen.

He's turning into a real love bug too. He now almost likes being scratched and is so much more sociable!

It's difficult not knowing a puppy's past.

Sam obviously has trust issues and he's never been properly trained. There's so much work that's needed to get him to an adoptable state.  

He has made tremendous progress these last 3 weeks though.

He's now housebroken and he's learned his name. His "mouthing" has decreased and we're working on his touch aversion. 

He went for his first fun car ride and it seems he enjoyed it a lot!

We picked up Sam at the Vet!

He's a Schnauzer puppy, 5 months old.

He has a seizure disorder that we'll be helping manage.

For some reason, he just doesn't look like a Schnauzer to us but he's a cute little guy!

Vacationing With Pets

I can't imagine vacationing without Mia. She loves riding in the car and just being with us. So many hotels now accommodate pets so it's gotten easier to take them with you.

We recently visited Bryce Canyon and stayed at Americas Best Hotel. It really wasn't the best but the only hotel near the Canyon that allowed pets. That's ok....it was clean.

We had to carry her on some of the trails because dogs weren't allowed but she's a lightweight. 

She was a perfect little travel companion. 

My last hamburger

I've been road tripping the last couple years back and forth west to east, east to west.

Watching the scenery without much thought.

I do so love seeing cows lazily grazing in pastures. 

Such a relaxing view.

But then, to see cows in a different perspective, made me cringe a little at the time. Miles and miles of not cows, but meat, livestock, product for consumption.

After coming home and letting my brain process what I've seen, I now have decided that hamburgers are no longer on my menu plan.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian but just thinking more about what I am eating.

I think this is where it starts.

Foster # 4!

This is our 4th rescue pup! We're calling him Buddy for now!

He's a ShihTzu that was found wandering around the desert. Badly matted with many wounds, it's a wonder he survived. 

The soft collar is to protect the wounds.

He has acclimated to our home perfectly.

We'll probably have him for a couple weeks then he'll be ready for his forever home!

My daughter, Katie and her husband, Mark came in from Berkeley today.  Initial meeting with Mia was wonderful!

Introducing Mia!

I've been so busy with a new puppy.

First on our list was housebreaking!

We found that Mia is food oriented and used this to our advantage.

Cut her normal amount that goes in her bowl in half. The other half we've been using as an incentive to do her business outside.

This method works well  with a pup that enjoys treats without putting extra weight on.

Mia is also starting to enjoy being a model!

Our foster number 2 is Skippe!

He's a Schnauzer that I adore!

He's a sweet little guy that requires some socialization so we're taking him places to meet people to help overcome his shyness. He loves walks and attaches to people quickly. 

Right now, that's me.

We won't have him long cause he's just that cute!

We've started a new adventure in fostering dogs with our local rescue organization, We Care For Animals, here in Mesquite NV.

Our first foster was a little mini Doxie named Lola.

We got Lola right before Thanksgiving.

Lola was a sweet quiet little girl with some skin problems that we treated and they healed nicely.

She was also very overweight.

So a diet regimen with premium food and a strict exercise program was in order for her.

With her wounds healed and 3 pounds lost, she was ready for her forever home.

In January, a wonderful family was found and we tearfully said goodbye.
