Thinking ahead as the new year approaches.

Thinking ahead.
Christmas retail is over.
I'm always kinda relieved the few days before Christmas when the frenzy dies down. Happy to have had that frenzy though, many are suffering poor sales.
Anyway, the next phase of my business begins for the new year.
I'm constantly trying new things.
This time a very very different thing for me.
But for now, we have this.
More detailed, time consuming, tedious.
I must be crazy.

Christmas Puppies!

Remember all you new puppy parents,
the best thing you can do for your pup is make an appointment with your Vet to spay/neuter.

Adventures in Fostering #10

Lily found her forever home!
Yay for having a home for the holidays!

Even though it's been a pretty mild winter for some, we've been chilly here!
I'm stocking up on harness coats for those who walk their dogs at night!

Miascloset has had the best November since 2012!
2012 was the standard for me.

Adventures In Fostering

We now have Lily with us. She's Rose's sister.
Lily is a wonderful little dog that attaches to one person quickly. She will need extra time to trust others but once she does, she steals your heart!

The benefits of a harness vs the collar

I used to advocate the harness for small dogs rather than a regular collar.
I still do.
I've now seen the advantage with larger dogs too.
With a tiny dog, a collar is like a noose. As the dog pulls, pressure is placed on the delicate trachea.
When the dog pulls back, the collar tends to shift and you could possibly end up with NO dog on the end of the leash.
The same thing happens with big dogs.
The harness gives the owner a lot more control and spreads the pressure throughout the body of the dog.
I've witnessed embedded collars and permanent indents in a dog's neck from the daily wear of a collar.
Please consider using a decorative collar along with a harness for pictures and events.
Your dog may not be able to thank you but will be safe and comfortable.

As we move into the holiday season, I'm just going to wish all the retailers a good one!
It's important for every industry to do well in order for us to maintain our lifestyles.
Each business matters in the whole scheme of things and as we all profit this season, it keeps people employed and able to live and work happily.

Handmade items made by people who work at home from their kitchen table require sales to be able to continue to do so.
I think by purchasing these items, we also contribute to a small segment of the business population.
I simply hope for prosperity for the future.
Happy Early Christmas!

Adventures in Fostering

Well, we only had Rose for a week before she found her forever home.
Rose is a Doxie/Terrier mix who was found wandering in the desert with litter-mates, we think. One was hit by a car and killed before rescuing but the rescue managed to get Rose and Lily.
I believe this is foster #11. Rose

Family

Home again and back to work.
My mom is stable and home too.
She is such a lovely lady.

Friday, October 9, 2015

There are times when you need to step back from business and take care of family.
Another hospitalization for my mom is another  2000 mile trip to where I was born to be with my family.
COPD is a chronic incurable disease that's affected my mom for the past decade.
The ups and downs of respiratory complications has us in a constant state of alert.
So for the second time in the last 3 months we trek to Michigan to get her strong again.
She is an amazing woman.

Foster #9 revisited Adventures in Fostering

We now have Mimi back in our home while waiting on the next surgery.
Mimi has been shaved to even out the surgery site length and she just needs some cover up!

She's quite a model!
This is going to be quite fun!

ADOPTED!

Stevie was adopted yesterday, August 8!
A wonderful couple just fell in love with her and she's going to have the best of the best! Hooray for Stevie and her new family.
Meanwhile, I've just spent two weeks with my mom nursing her back to health after colon surgery.
Spending nights at her bedside in the hospital has proved to be enlightening.
I've neglected my customers i'm afraid but am now ready to get back to work.

Foster #9 Adventures in Fostering

While Mimi recovers and rehabs her knees, we have the pleasure of keeping Stevie Nicks!
She's up for adoption with

It's going to take someone very special to adopt this little girl.
Found wandering out in the desert not wanting to be touched.
She's learning that humans aren't all bad.
Slowly.
Very slowly.

Adventures in Fostering #8

Home less than a week and all ready for the next one!
Meet Mimi!
A beautiful little Lhasa Apso girl who needs
knee surgery for luxating patellas.
We'll be keeping her until her surgery next week, then she'll go into recovery/rehab.

This one is a heartbreaker for sure!

Christmas IS NOT in July

Every year my customers refuse to save money by purchasing these darn stockings in July. They prefer to pay full price in Nov. and Dec.

I don't get it.

Traveling with Pets Continued.

After our fourth trip across the country with a pet, we've come up with a couple tips.
Since we're not campers, it helps to call hotels in your target area in advance.
This way you won't get stuck scrambling for a place to stay that is pet friendly.
Google has been great for finding hotels and motels that are pet friendly but pet friendly doesn't always mean pet accommodating.
A few hotels we found will accept pets grudgingly and will charge up to $40 for each pet.
These we try to avoid.
The last hotel had no area designated as a relief area.
I had to walk around the building to find a small patch of grass. There was no garbage to dispose of waste either.
This was quite unacceptable and I'll be sure not to stay there again.
We sure enjoy having our dog's company while traveling and hope to continue doing so in the future!https://www.etsy.com/shop/miascloset?section_id=5429945&ref=shopsection_leftnav_6

Bryce is going to a Pet Paloooza in St George Utah Saturday April 25!
Wish him luck on finding his forever home!
He really is the best foster pup we've ever had, such a gentleman!
Crossing my paws!

Yep...#7 still with us!

It's ok though, we really like having him around.
Mia's been teaching him how to play too.
He loves his daily walks and loves to go for rides in the car.
I made him a matching harness, like Mia, for the summer holidays.

Bryce is coming along well. He's a great dog. He's housebroken, quiet, calm, likes to go on walks and in the car, doesn't shed and he's adorable.
He's learning how to play!
We're going to an adoption event Friday March 20.

Fostering Dogs Foster #7

March 2. We invited Bryce to stay with us for a short time.
He is from a high kill shelter and we're excited to have him.
After checking out his disposition, his coloring, coat and body shape and size, we conclude that he's a double dapple dachshund. He doesn't seem to have any defects so we think he's a lucky little guy.

Finding a Groomer...

It's difficult sometimes finding a groomer willing to work with a rescue dog that's not been trained to behave.
We did find one for our Bella so now we'll see.
Appt. for the 15th with our favorite groomer, Fran.
